This Month in Banjo Newsletter

The June issue will feature the first part of Scott Anderson’s interview with Bela Fleck about his CD, movie (and tour) “Throw Down Your Heart,” and Scott also reviews a recent show. We’ll also have a related review by Bob Carlin about Jayme Stone’s Juno-winning release, “From Africa to Appalachia.” Ian Perry reviews Alison Brown's latest CD, "The Company You Keep," and also Tony Trischka's "Master Collection of Fiddle Tunes for Banjo" book. Ned Luberecki gives us his tab for Manzanita. Ken Perlman reviews the new Mark Johnson Homespun instructional DVD. We’ll also have our regular columns: Beginner’s Corner, Adams County Banjo, Hugh Strawn’s Old-Time from the Ozarks, Janet Davis’ Backup, and Ken Perlman’s Melodic Clawhammer.

The July issue will feature Michael Brantley’s interview with Jim Mills about his upcoming book on pre-war Gibson flathead banjos. We’ll also have the conclusion of our June interview with Béla Fleck. In this issue’s Old-Time Way section, Dan Levenson interviews Arizona banjo player Big Jim Griffith, Alan Friend writes about old-time in NYC, and we’ll have a review of Nate Calkins’s banjos. And our regular columns: Beginner’s Corner, Adams County Banjo, Earl’s Way, Roger Siminoff’s Tech Talk, and Casey Henry’s On The Road.
